Back Facial in Columbia City, IN
Back acne (bacne) deserves the same focused treatment as facial acne. A 60-minute back facial includes targeted extractions, high-frequency, and a calming finish — places no facial at home reaches.
Right here in Columbia City
Columbia City is the home location — Makaela's studio sits inside House of Style at 106 N Walnut St, the brick building near the Whitley County courthouse. Most clients are walk-in-distance or a short drive from anywhere inside the city. For Columbia City clients, parking is in the gravel lot in back, and the entrance is the back-left door with a ramp up to the second floor.
What to expect
Back acne is one of the most under-treated conditions in adult skincare because it's out of sight and harder to reach with at-home products. A back facial puts the same six-step protocol used on face acne onto the back: double cleanse, exfoliation, steam, manual extractions, anti-inflammatory treatment (high-frequency), and a calming finish.
Back acne tends to be more inflammatory than facial acne — larger, deeper lesions; more pustules and papules; more post-inflammatory pigmentation that lingers. The protocol leans heavily on high-frequency to kill the acne-causing bacteria (cutibacterium acnes) and reduce inflammation in addition to the extractions.
At Groovy Complexions, the Custom Back Facial is $95 for about 60 minutes. The appointment runs the same structure as a face facial; the area is the upper, middle, and lower back depending on where the acne is concentrated.
Most clients with chronic bacne benefit from a 4-6 visit series at every 2-3 weeks initially, then maintenance every 4-6 weeks. At-home support: a body wash with salicylic acid (Cerave SA Cleanser, Neutrogena Body Clear) used on the back daily, a benzoyl peroxide spot treatment for active flares, and switching to fragrance-free laundry detergent and lightweight cotton clothes for the back area.
The appointment is private — Makaela's studio is a single room, and only the upper body is exposed during the back facial. Comfort isn't an afterthought.
Common questions
Why does back acne happen?
A combination of factors: more sebaceous (oil-producing) glands on the back than most of the body, chronic friction from clothing, sweat that lingers in the area, and sometimes hormonal triggers (especially testosterone-related). It's not caused by hygiene.
Are back extractions different from face extractions?
Slightly. Back skin is thicker, so steam time is longer (12-15 minutes vs. 8-10 for face). The extraction technique is the same. Cysts and nodules on the back, like on the face, should not be extracted — those need cortisone injection or topical treatment.
How fast do results show?
First visit: meaningfully fewer surface lesions for a few days. Visit 3-4: noticeable reduction in active flares. Months 3-6: pigmentation fading and texture smoothing.
What if my back acne is from sports or lifting?
Friction-related acne (mechanica) responds well to back facials plus showering immediately after activity, switching to moisture-wicking technical fabrics, and using a SA body wash. Mention activity routine at booking.
