Sugaring
How long does Brazilian sugaring last?
The reason results vary by appointment number is that hair grows in three phases — anagen (active growth), catagen (transition), and telogen (resting). At any given time, only the anagen hairs are visible above the skin. The telogen hairs underneath are still working their way up.
When you come in for your first sugaring, the paste removes every visible hair, but it can't reach the ones still under the surface. Those start appearing within 7-10 days. That's why the first appointment's "smooth" period feels shorter than expected — about 2-3 weeks before noticeable regrowth.
By appointment three, you've aligned more of your hairs to the same growth cycle. The telogen hairs from cycle one are now visible, and they get pulled too. Each subsequent session aligns the cycles further, and the smooth period stretches.
Hair texture matters. Coarse, dark hair grows faster and shows sooner — these clients typically rebook at 3-4 weeks. Fine, light hair stays smooth longer; these clients can stretch to 5-6 weeks comfortably.
Going longer than 6 weeks between appointments resets some of the cycle alignment. Most regular clients book on a 4-week rhythm and find that's the sweet spot for both comfort (less pain at consistent intervals) and results (longer smooth periods).
Key facts
- First Brazilian sugaring smooth period: 2-3 weeks.
- Third+ consecutive Brazilian sugaring: 4-5 weeks of smoothness.
- Coarse / dark hair regrows faster than fine / light hair.
- Hair grows in three cycles; only one is visible at any time.
- Most regular clients rebook every 4 weeks.
- Going beyond 6 weeks between appointments resets the cycle-alignment benefits.
Common follow-up questions
Will my hair eventually stop growing back?
Not entirely — sugaring isn't permanent removal. With years of consistent appointments, many clients see significantly thinner, sparser regrowth that's easy to maintain. If your goal is full reduction, lasers and electrolysis are the only methods medically considered permanent.
How soon after my appointment can I have sex / swim / exercise?
Wait 24 hours for sex, hot tubs, swimming pools, and rigorous exercise. The follicles are open and bacteria can enter. After 24 hours you're back to normal.
Does sugaring make hair grow back thinner?
Yes, gradually. Each pull weakens the follicle slightly. After 6-12 months of consistent sugaring, most clients notice their regrowth is finer, lighter, and patchier.
What if I shave between appointments?
Shaving resets the growth cycle. It doesn't hurt your follicles, but it disrupts the cycle alignment that makes consistent sugaring last longer over time. If you do shave, give yourself the full 7-10 days of regrowth before your next sugaring.
When this doesn’t apply
Hormonal shifts (pregnancy, IUD, menopause, HRT) can change hair growth speed unpredictably. Clients in those phases sometimes find their regrowth pattern shifts for several months — this is normal and adjusts back to baseline once hormones stabilize.
