Hi, I’m Makaela.
I’m a state-licensed esthetician and the only practitioner at Groovy Complexions, the sugaring + skincare studio at 106 N Walnut St in Columbia City, IN. Every client who comes through my door sees me — not a rotation of staff, not a chain handing you off between rooms. One esthetician, one chair, one person at a time.
I built Groovy Complexions to be the studio I always wanted: a place where every body, every gender, every kind of skin walks in comfortable and walks out feeling unstoppable. Whether it’s your first Brazilian or your fiftieth facial — same warm welcome, same disco-ball energy, same goal.
What I specialize in
Two areas where I do the most work and have the most to say:
- Sugaring — especially Brazilian. I’m the only dedicated sugarist in Whitley County. Sugaring is gentler than waxing for most clients (and dramatically gentler if you’ve had bad waxing experiences before). The paste is three ingredients — sugar, water, lemon — and removes hair with the direction of growth, which is why ingrowns drop meaningfully for clients who switch.
- Acne care — especially adult and hormonal. Custom facials with extractions, high-frequency treatment, LED therapy, and chemical exfoliation. For clients with deep cystic acne or scarring concerns I refer to dermatology and provide maintenance facials between visits.
How I work
- By appointment only. Online booking through my Square calendar, real-time availability.
- Card on file, no charge at booking. The card is only used if you cancel inside 24 hours, no-show, or arrive past the 5-minute grace period (per the cancellation policy).
- One client at a time. The studio is a single room. Privacy matters.
- All bodies welcome. Gender-neutral pricing, experience with HRT-affected hair growth and post-op clients. If you’ve had to shop around for a studio that just gets it, you’re in the right place.
Where I am
Inside House of Style, the brick-building salon collective in downtown Columbia City. Address: 106 N Walnut St. Parking is in the gravel lot in back; the entrance is the back-left door, ramp up to the second floor.
I see clients from Columbia City and the 30-mile radius — Fort Wayne, Warsaw, Huntington, Wabash, North Manchester, Auburn, Kendallville. If you’re driving in from one of those, plan for a 25-45 minute trip depending on your starting point.
